When you hear a rope slip or unusual noises, stop immediately and inspect the system before continuing. These sounds can signal rope wear, frayed or damaged sheath, rope routing issues, worn or loose hardware, or an anchor problem, any of which could fail under load. Stopping gives you a chance to check the rope condition, connectors and hardware, pulleys, and how the rope runs through the system to ensure nothing is misaligned or damaged. If you find damage or misalignment, don’t continue—repair or replace the faulty parts and re-test the system with a qualified person. If nothing looks wrong, you can resume after a thorough recheck. Ignoring the noise is unsafe, dropping to the ground doesn’t address the underlying issue, and stopping work for the day is unnecessary unless the problem can’t be resolved on site.
